Making Space

Through a Softer Lens with Milly Mead

There’s something about the way a photographer sees the world that changes how you look at home. Light lands differently. Corners feel alive. Even the smallest detail becomes something worth noticing.

When we visited photographer Milly Mead, her home felt like a reflection of that same quiet attention. The afternoon sun drifted through wide windows, catching on family photos, favourite artworks, and souvenirs from past travels. Every piece had a story, placed not for perfection but for feeling.

We sat down to talk about what home means to her, how her work inspires her space, and the beauty of slowing down.

What does home mean to you right now?

To me, home means an expression of all the things I love and feel good around, whether that be furniture pieces that make my eyes happy to look at, family photos and favourite paintings on the wall, or mementos from past travels that I like to be reminded of.

When you’re not behind the camera, what’s your favorite way to slow down at home?

When I'm not out shooting, I love slowing down at home by curling up with my partner on the couch to watch a movie, or shuffling books and objects around our apartment, styling it in different ways.

Does your photographer’s eye influence how you style your own space or the pieces you choose to keep around?

Absolutely - one of the best parts of my job is being surrounded by talented creatives. Being on set is a constant spark of inspiration for colour, shapes or pieces I want to bring into my own home.

Your home feels so thoughtful. Where did the Eclipse Sofa land, and why did that spot feel right?

The Eclipse landed right next to a big window in our living room. When you sink down into it, the sofa feels like a bit of a cocoon, but you can still see the outside world, and I just love that feeling. It's a spot we enjoy daily - with a cup of coffee in the mornings while it's dark outside and the sun is beginning to come up and then again in the evenings, we get the best view of the sun setting from our Eclipse.

What’s inspiring you most at the moment?

It might sound cliché for a photographer, but nature always inspires me most. The way light shifts during the day, the colours, the textures, the stillness. I try to bring that sense of calm and connection into both my photography and my home.

And your first impression when you sat on the Eclipse Sofa?

I knew instantly it was something we’d have for a long time. It’s comfortable, timeless, and feels like it belongs here.
