Sofa beds generally fall into a few types, but they work differently when it comes to how they are used. Pull-out sofa beds are the ones you’ll see most commonly in homes. The mattress sits under the seat and pulls forward when needed. Fold-out sofa beds work by hinging the seat and back down to form the bed. There are also simpler fold-out mattress styles that sit directly on the floor. They’re easy to set up, but offer less support.

Start with your space. Measure the room properly so you know what you’re working with, both in sofa mode and when it’s pulled out as a bed. Then think about how it will be used. Will it mainly function as a sofa and only become a bed occasionally, or will it be used more regularly for sleeping? Once you’re clear on space and use, it becomes easier to choose a sofa bed that fits both your room and your routine.

The Slideaway Sofa Bed is a 3-seater sofa that opens into a double bed, designed to comfortably sleep two adults. When extended, the sleeping surface measures 188 cm wide with 117 cm of sleeping space. It’s designed as a double and isn’t available as a 2-seater or queen size.

Absolutely. We know life can get messy, and we want you to feel comfortable with your sofa bed without worrying about sticky fingers or spills. The fabric is hardwearing and easy to care for,  regular vacuuming will help keep it looking fresh. When your sofa bed needs a deeper clean, just unzip the covers, remove the inserts, and machine wash at up to 30°C (no tumble drying). For best results, avoid harsh cleaning products and wipe up spills quickly with a cloth or paper towel. Full care instructions are on the label if you need them.

The Slideaway Sofa Bed is on display at both our Carlton House showroom in Melbourne and Surry Hills House in Sydney, so you can sit, stretch out and try them in person before you decide. Both spaces are set up like real homes, so you can get a proper feel for how the sofa bed might feel in your living room or spare room.
