Moments with Sophie McIntyre

Sophie McIntyre, founder of Club Sup, the now beloved supper club built around bringing strangers together over a meal, has a way of making you feel like you’ve known her longer than you have. There’s no performance or networking energy. Just genuine curiosity and warmth.

We spent the morning talking about connection, books, hosting, and why something as simple as dinner can change everything.

Here’s a little of what she shared.

Club Sup is built around bringing people together. Where did that desire for connection come from originally?

It came from my own experience from loneliness in my early 20's. I found a great group of friends in the first year of the pandemic and I wanted everyone to have that experience. When I first started the club we were exiting the pandemic and I wanted there to be a space where everyone could come together and connect over a meal.

You spend a lot of time hosting and creating spaces for others. How do you make your own home feel welcoming without overthinking it?

It’s really simple. Just a clean, tidy house with something delicious cooking in the oven, and maybe something gorgeous burning to fill the space with a beautiful smell. That to me always makes everything feel so cosy!

Hosting can sometimes feel intimidating. What’s one thing you’ve learned through Club Sup that makes inviting people in feel simpler?

If you are hosting at home, cook something simple that can sit in the oven while people arrive. Always get everyone to bring a wine or something to add to the table. If you’re a guest, always offer to help tidy up!

You have the Eclipse Sofa in your space. What was it about that piece that felt right for how you live and host?

The Eclipse can fit so many people on it without taking up too much space, it's some sort of magic! Plus, it’s the perfect piece to gather around after dinner with wine or dessert.

If you could offer one piece of advice to someone wanting to create a more connected, welcoming home, what would it be?

I think taking pride in your space is important. Configure it in a way that invites people to sit, settle in, and chat.
