Today marks a special milestone in our design journey at Eva. We're thrilled to announce that the Delve Bed Frame has been recognised with the Australian Good Design Award® — one of the world's oldest and most prestigious design accolades, celebrating excellence in innovation and design since 1958.

You might know our bestselling Slideaway Sofa Bed — which won Gold in the Good Design Award® in 2023 and the Red Dot Award in 2024 — as well as the 4× award-winning Comfort Classic Mattress (formerly the Eva Mattress). We also have the Timber Bed Frame which won the Good Design Award® in 2020.
This win isn’t just another trophy. It recognises a shift in how we think about furniture longevity and the role design plays in a more sustainable future.

The problem we set out to solve with Delve
User insights highlighted frustrations with traditional upholstered beds: tricky long-term maintenance and a feeling of permanence that clashes with today’s more transient households.
Beautiful at first, but when fabric stains, styles change, or you move homes, that gorgeous bed can become a burden — too expensive to replace, too permanent to adapt, too bulky to move.
The cycle looked like this:
- Purchase an upholstered bed for $2,000+
- Enjoy it for 2–3 years until the fabric shows wear or the style dates
- Face the choice: live with it or replace the entire frame
- Eventually replace — contributing to Australia’s 800,000 tonnes of annual furniture waste
We knew there was a better way.

The design journey: two years, three redesigns, one vision
Over two years, our Brunswick-based team iterated through three redesigns to create a tool-free, structurally sound, adaptable upholstered bed frame. We questioned every assumption about how upholstered beds should work.
The challenges:
- Create removable upholstery that still looks and feels premium
- Maintain structural integrity with tool-free assembly
- Design for future headboard styles we haven’t invented yet
- Add storage without compromising proportions

Innovation that changes everything
What makes Delve award-worthy isn’t a single feature — it’s how each element works together to solve real problems.
Machine-washable, interchangeable upholstery
We developed a cover system that’s secure yet removable. The machine-washable covers fasten with protected velcro for easy removal and longer life — keeping the premium feel. New covers mean new colours and textures without buying a new bed.
Tool-free assembly that actually works
Most “easy assembly” furniture trades strength for convenience. Delve does neither. Engineering focuses on hand screws for a genuinely tool-free assembly that’s fast to build, easy to disassemble for moves, and rock-solid for years.
Intelligent storage solutions
Four vertically sliding doors minimise footprint when open and unlock the entire under-bed space for larger items — no wrestling with heavy lift-up mechanisms or disturbing the bed’s clean lines.

Why the judges were impressed
The Good Design Awards® promote excellence in design and innovation since 1958, with rigorous criteria across design excellence, innovation, and impact.
- Design excellence: Clean lines and plush upholstery inspired by the Eva Everyday Sofa communicate comfort while keeping visual lightness. It looks like beautiful furniture that happens to be brilliantly functional.
- Innovation impact: Easy fabric refreshes open upholstered beds to more people who previously saw them as impractical.
- Sustainability leadership: With growing demand for eco-friendly furniture, Delve’s circular approach addresses real environmental concerns.
The sustainability story
Sustainability was central from day one.
- Over 800,000 tonnes of furniture waste is generated annually in Australia
- Bed frames weighing 23–68 kg are bulky and occupy valuable landfill space
- Delve’s modular approach can help keep countless bed frames out of landfill
How we design for better outcomes:
- CNC-nested cutting patterns to minimise plywood waste
- FSC-certified timber from responsibly managed forests
- Recycled filling materials in cushioning
- Fabrics with recycled content where possible
Our goal is a circular economy approach — designing for longevity, adaptability, and fewer replacements. We’re committed to continual improvement.

The details that make the difference
- Comfort engineering: Headboard comfort principles from our Everyday Sofa make reading and lounging in bed feel natural.
- Future-proofed design: The bracket system is engineered for compatibility with future accessories and headboards so your bed can evolve over decades.
- Quality assurance: OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 fabrics, CertiPUR-US® foams, and Eva’s quality benchmarks refined by years of customer feedback.
What this recognition means
Winning the Australian Good Design Award® validates what we believe: good design shouldn’t compromise sustainability, functionality, or style. Delve anticipates trends — sustainable materials, soft curves, vibrant palettes, and space-savvy solutions — while setting a new benchmark for what furniture can do.
Looking forward: the ripple effect
One award won’t change an industry, but it signals a shift. A circular economy keeps materials in use, cuts waste and pollution, and supports regeneration. Delve is built for the bedroom you have today — and the ones you’ll have next.
