We’re delighted to share something special with you. Eva has officially opened the doors to our first Sydney showroom — Surry Hills House — at 75 Fitzroy Street.
More than just a store, Surry Hills House is an invitation: to slow down, take a seat, and experience our designs the way they’re meant to be lived.
A natural next step in our story
Eva began with a single idea in Melbourne — to make furniture that feels like home, in every sense of the word. From our original mattress-in-a-box to a complete collection for living, dining, and sleeping, every piece has been designed with care, function, and comfort in mind.
Opening in Sydney feels both like a milestone and a return. Amanda Niu and Ken Lau, our co-founders, say of Sydney:
“Having lived in Sydney during my university days, it’s always had a special place in my heart. We’ve always joked that we have a long-distance relationship with Sydney, so it’s incredibly grounding and exciting to be able to now come back here and share Surry Hills House with our friends.”

Why Surry Hills?
We spent months looking for the right home for Eva in Sydney.
It wasn’t just about finding a retail address, but about finding a space with true character — somewhere that felt lived-in, layered, and full of story. Amanda and Ken explain:
“We chose Surry Hills because of its connection to arts, culture and heritage. Our goal is to embed Eva into the community and set the standard for more thoughtful pieces that balance both form and function in the home.”
The heritage-listed terrace on Fitzroy Street had exactly that: history you can see in every detail, and a spirit that felt like the perfect foundation for Eva’s next chapter.
Designed to feel like home
We didn’t want this to be just another showroom.
From the start, our vision for Surry Hills House was simple: to create a space that feels like walking into someone’s home. A space that said ‘Welcome Home.’
We partnered once again with InAddition Studio — the same architects behind our Carlton House flagship in Melbourne — to bring that vision to life.
Every room is designed as you’d actually live in it:
-
Living Room: Materiality is robust and honest, a reflection of its intended use.
-
Dining Room: Crafted in natural finishes, tactile and warm, the Dining Room is a space dedicated to the coming together of friends and family.
- Bedroom: Contained to reflect privacy, Bedroom spaces are inward focusing, highly textural and feature indirect lighting that wash over surfaces to convey a feeling of retreat.

Like Carlton House, our Surry Hills space flips the script on traditional furniture retail. There are no sterile displays or endless rows of products. Instead, it’s furniture in its natural habitat — a thoughtfully curated home, one that’s layered with real life, heritage, personality, and pieces that genuinely belong.
Materials and details that tell a story
True to Eva’s ethos, careful thought was put into every material and detail.
Key lighting and styling items are sourced from an abundance of talented Australian designers, enriching the local narrative and design industry. Recyclable Tyvek sheets feature in our statement pendant lamps above the stairwell — a nod to our ongoing commitment to materials that respect both people and the planet.
Even the layout is designed with real life in mind. Take the reading nook, where you’re welcome to pick up a book, settle in for a chapter, or even take it home to read and bring back on your next visit.
“There is no time pressure to testing products in-store, the staff encourage putting your feet up on sofas or lying down on the mattresses. They want you to feel at home, and to make sure the product is right for you. Also, our stores are pet-friendly!”
A retail experience that’s all about you
Visiting Surry Hills House isn’t just about seeing our designs — it’s about experiencing them the way you would at home.
Put your feet up on a sofa. Stretch out on a bed. Feel the weave of a fabric. Imagine it in your own space.
Our showroom team isn’t here to push a sale. They’re here to guide you. We’ll help you think through the details. Amanda and Ken encourage it:
“Showroom staff provide advice beyond Eva, making sure that the consultations are a holistic approach. Customers have brought in their floor plans or mood boards, and they help with interior selections, providing fabric swatches.”

Celebrating our opening in Sydney
At our official opening on the 28th of June, we’ve celebrated with a few extra touches:
- Complimentary coffee and pastries from Rusty’s & Pablo and Bourke Street Bakery.
- Limited-edition Eva tote bags and notebooks for early visitors.
It’s our way of saying thank you to the community that’s welcomed us so warmly.
A continuation of our journey
Surry Hills House is a symbol of how far Eva has come.
When we launched, we focused on getting one thing right: making a mattress that combined quality with accessibility. Over the years, we grew our range slowly and deliberately, taking the time to design, test, and refine every piece so it felt just right.
We’re proud that today, you can fit out an entire home with Eva. And now, you can see it all come together under one heritage roof in Surry Hills.
