In Addition exists to create meaningful and experiential spaces for our clients. We begin every project with a Workshop that takes a deep dive, not just into the project, but into the brand, where they came from, where they are and their aspirations for the future. We look at the sector they fall within, their competition and what sets them apart. Our goal is to create a physical space that embodies the energy of the brand, a space that feels at home with the product.
Cosy is about small details and the familiar; a place to drop your keys, hang your coat and come home to. The arrival experience into Eva’s Carlton House plays on the typical entrance hall, framing views into adjoining rooms and showcasing the furniture in spaces that feel natural. A key element of the design response is for the customer to be able to easily envision the furniture in their own home.

The Faraday Street location straddles the iconic Retail and Hospitality strip of Lygon Street and adjoining residential fabric, sharing the street with local institutions, Baker D. Chirico, Market Lane Coffee and Carlton Wine Room. Eva immediately feels part of the neighbourhood.
Working with a heritage building always reveals surprises. While none of the ceiling roses were original (or of the correct period), we worked with Hopkins Plaster to reinstate plaster work that is more honest to the era. One of the happy accidents was the uncovering of the fireplace, which now features a beautiful bagged texture to the brickwork, giving it a new lease on life.
We’re proud to collaborate with brands advocating for positive social and environmental change. Throughout all of our projects we try to use materials that exhibit integrity, that we know will have an enduring life cycle. Where possible, working with the existing materiality of a site provides a richness to the design response; with Eva, the existing floorboards were refurbished and details celebrated, continuing to tell their story.

The entry is my favourite. It’s the moment Eva greets you. It’s the hint of nostalgia and familiarity of the hallway. Contemporary reveals which frame the rooms and the dappled light of the fused glass toplight created by the ever talented Eloise McCullough of Fools Glass. It feels like home.
